For many college students, 8:00 a.m. classes are the end of the world. What’s even worse is not having time to eat breakfast and energize before and during that class.
Constantly experiencing this problem, two students at Boston’s Northeastern University questioned, “Why can’t we just eat our coffee?”
Co-founders of New Grounds Foods, Johnny Fayad and Ali Kothari, were tired of waking up as freshmen, for their 8:00 a.m. financial class and not having time to grab breakfast or even a coffee. They wanted a simpler way to get their day started without sacrificing nutrition, so they created the CoffeeBar: an all-natural energy bar that is infused with a full cup of fair-trade coffee.
Each CoffeeBar contains an entire cup of coffee and is made with all natural ingredients that satisfy gluten-free and vegan diets. Despite its health benefits, the co-founders also stress the importance of making their product taste good.
“We wanted to provide people with a healthier way to stay energized throughout the day, but knew if it didn’t taste good, no one would eat it,” says Fayad, now in his third year at Northeastern.
